From Pet-O-Phobia To Cat-O-Philia

My sister loves animals! me on the other hand - meh.
when people said, "OMG! how can you not like pets! they are adorable".
I told them I believed that animals should be left to do their thing! they shouldn't be domesticated or confined to four rooms of the house. It got me out of arguments but I wasn't being completely honest.
I was scared of pets.
I always had a bad experience to narrate, when it came to my interactions with furry beings!
In my youth I was barked at, chased by and more often than not growled at by many of these four legged beings.
After a while I gave up and decided that we both (me and my four legged lovelies) have a cold and distant relationship.
So i tried my hand at something which did not have any legs at all!
Fish.
Unfortunately, my pet loving sister was too young at the time, did not understand the concept of feeding fish as methodical and strategic. which led to a series of unfortunate events (to painful to describe!).And we lost all our bright orange friends at once.
After that I knew I am not capable to handle pets.
Many years went by after that sad incident (may the rest in peace) and my philosophy towards pets grew staunch and stark.
AND THEN THE MAGIC HAPPENED.
On a mundane day as any, me and my sister heard "meows". Of course I ignored it! But remember me mentioning my pet loving sister somewhere? yep, she couldn't....so she ran along and located the meows. It was coming from a gorgeous ginger kitten who seemed to have lost his mum and squealing on top of his lungs for her....(she just went to stretch her legs..would you please relax!)
After that day, my sister found the love of her life, the kitten found his surrogate mum and his mum found some freedom.
I on the other hand wanted to relocate.
Though we did not adopt them they were frequent visitors. To be specific, when hunger bloomed in their tummies we would here meows resonating from below our apartment.
Of course we had to name them.
We named the tiny kitten very aptly, "tiny" and his mother bazinga. (No idea why, but we are ardent fans of the big bang theory!)
the first one on one interaction I had with tiny was a few weeks later when he wanted to be fed and my sister was not around to do so. Reluctantly, I welcomed him in the house and gave him some milk. Naturally, we both were mutually hesitant of each other but his hunger took the better of him and he came in to drink the milk.
I simply watched.
I simply watched him drink his milk enthusiastically and that was it. my fear and my resistance towards him vanished - poof! i gave him a chance and he magically removed all my fear!
since then I have gone from wanting to relocate to having two cats and so many more loitering cats that come by for a bite to eat!
I cannot tell you how the transformation happened and how I got the courage to go and just touch tiny, but it made everything better. He gave me a look of trust that I Still cannot erase from my memory.
Now I am a full time self proclaimed cat lady along with my younger sister.
I have two full time cats at home now, Sir Simba (three year old ginger) and Batman (the crazy one year old black and white cat). Their stories are amazing too. I will share them with you soon.
Unfortunately we have lost few of our furry felines along the way including tiny and bazinga, who just randomly disappeared a couple of years ago.
In conclusion I now love cats and do not fear dogs that much too and to all those people who have issues with animals?...They are the best thing that can happen to you, all you got to do is give them a chance with sincerity.
