As a photographer based in San Diego, I have been shooting and selling prints of our sunsets, seascapes and beach landmarks as well as artistic portraits for over 20 years. One night my daughter's boyfriend came over with a big bouquet of flowers for her birthday and when he left I watered the flowers and placed them in a vase. As the flowers glistened in the night, I grabbed my camera, a tripod, a flashlight, my wireless handheld mouse which has a red laser light built into it and a pen that had a blue light in it. I did long some long exposures in the dark and got these electric floral shots.
The long exposures were necessary to give me some time to “paint” with my hand-held light sources and to give the flowers some dramatic glow and long light trails. The flowers were shot in the dark with no other light source except for these three that were mentioned.
