"I am always thinking of better ways to make things and have done quite a bit of ceramic and porcelain work. One day, while using a urinal, I just started thinking... urinals are ceramic, the material I work in, and I just started toying with what shapes might work as a urinal. I thought of a shoe, or a mouth and landed on a flower since it is funnel-shaped. My first little exhibit had 3 flower urinals that didn’t even work because of all the cracks I had to hide, but it was a big hit so I persevered until I figured out how to make a functional urinal. It started out as kind of a joke, but people around me encouraged me to continue. It wasn’t easy to figure out a way to create these pieces, but the more successful pieces I made, the more I enjoyed transforming what many see as an ugly item into something beautiful," the artist told Bored Panda.
If you want to stand out and ensure a luxury restroom experience, you will have to spend a penny. The cost of Sorensen's current collection of exquisite urinals ranges from $7900 to $16500 per piece, which is totally reasonable as creating a durable urinal can take up to 8 months. Most of the artist's works are carefully designed and hand-crafted to bring a little bit of nature to your bathroom—they resemble flowers, plants, and shells.
