I was inspired to make a series of comic-book style illustrations entitled "Fast Love", following the collectively negative experiences my friends faced with modern dating.
Dating apps have become an "Uber Eats" for sexual appetites that only facilitate lust. I made the connection between fast food and dating apps as they shared many similarities - their ease of access, disposability and consumer-orientated nature.
For example, in "Glazed and Confused", at first glance, the viewer will see a strawberry doughnut with multi-coloured sprinkles. On a closer study, the viewer will notice that the sprinkles are, in fact, various drugs and pills branded with logos of dating apps. This artwork explores themes of swiping addiction and instant gratification.
Throughout the series, I explore the commodification and devaluation of romance. A central question is - "Is it technology's fault? Or, is it ours?"
