Belgian artist Joeri Christiaen began illustrating daily life in lockdown the day it all started, 6 weeks ago. What began as just one casual drawing has now become part of a late-night routine, which he didn't imagine would last for weeks.
Joeri, an animation writer and director based in Paris, illustrates challenges and unexpected comedy coming from family life in lockdown―from homeschooling young kids to hectic conference calls, dealing with being together 24/7, and trying to find (some) time for yourself.
Even though many people are now in self-isolation, there are a lot of relatable situations we continue to share. Every day Joeri receives messages from friends and strangers telling him they’re looking forward to these daily slices of life because they make them smile, feel touched, or simply a bit less lonely. As many of us are juggling between family life and work in these exceptional circumstances, it’s nice to remember you’re not the only one out there not handling it perfectly or having it all figured out!
As Joeri’s main craft is to create and direct animated films and series (you can find more information about his work on his website or Facebook page), this is now inspiring him to write a new short. To be continued...
