Gavin Carter a veteran video game producer who has worked on games like Fallout 3 and Halo 4, proposed to his girlfriend in a very unique way. His girlfriend Emily is a huge fan of Overwatch (a massive video game) and even worked for their esports league. So Gavin Commissioned "Optimistic Geometry" to create a real life loot box from Overwatch and hide the engagement ring inside.
The box itself was challenging to create. Packing 13 servos, 8 motors, hundreds of LEDs, 8 electronics boards and nearly 50 meters of wiring into a small space while trying to maintain the look from the game. It was even controlled from a phone over Bluetooth.
He patiently planned and waited for a year as the loot box was being designed and built from scratch. No detail on the box was sparred nearly everything worked like it did from the game, even the barcode on the box scanned as "Emily".
Finally after lots of development and extra additions, like a smoke effect plinth, the box was ready. Shipped in secret to his friends house so Emily wouldn't noticed, the box was tested and prepped. He enlisted the help of the Aviary in Chicago, the couples favorite bar, to present the box on Emily's birthday.
As you can see she said yes ;) The happy couple are now engaged and have an awesome creative moment to remember forever.
You can see more of the incredible box and how it was built on Optimistic Geometry's Facebook and instagram:
