Drop whatever you're doing, we have a situation in here! A stay-at-home mother has posted a picture of the 'impossible to open' cupboard and she needs your tips to open it without destroying these precious porcelain plates.
'A cupboard that can never be opened,' - read the caption. Of course, you can never throw words like 'never' online because soon after posting, the army of kind-hearted internauts came pouring in (16,000 reactions and 456 comments) to help this lady with getting her plates to safety.
What would you do in this situation? Post your answers below!
Update: The photo was actually taken after an earthquake in the Tottori Prefecture on October 21st, in a hotel owned by the Kishida family.

Get a blowup mattress and put it next to the cupboard. Put soft blankets on ledge if necessary. Have people standing ready to catch the bowls when they bounce. This should save most of them.

If you can move/disengage the cupboard: move/disengage the cupboard and remove the back so you can save the plates without falling.
Not funny but hopefully helpfull.

I would break the window to the right and get the bowls out that way, the glass would be cheap and easy enough to repair, good luck.

Jist put a tissue or a big pillow uder it as soon as u open the door, so that the cups can fall on it , u ll lose from one to 6 of them but u ll save the rest, make sure u wear thick gloves a face mask and something on ur head.

You're going to need more than two persons to help you hold some of the plates, no gloves but bare hands. Carefully and slowly break the glass, use ladders and with the help for your people, some will have to hold plates and some will have to remove them. Your problem is solved. Glass is cheaper to replace.

Place a giant container filled with water (baby tub made from plastic would do) right under the cabinet. Tilt the cabinet backwards a little - only as much so you could open the door. If any of the plates fly out they might sink right away in the water container and not break themselves on one another. Good luck :)

Stack a few mattresses on the floor in front of the cabinet door, throw a bunch of big fluffy bath towels on the mattresses to minimize bounce. Then, while standing on the mattresses open the door slowly to capture the falling dishes. Whichever dishes you miss will land on the mattresses and fluffy towels. Some dishes may be saved as long as they don't land on top of each other. It would be helpful if you had a second person removing the saved dishes from the mattresses as they land.

Just move. The dishes aren't even that nice, and neither is the cabinet

Just stop time. Then casually open the cupboard door, re-stack dishes and close the door. Start time.
Then have a word with yourself for the state of your dishes!
