A cruise ship worker recently posted a mind-blowing video on TikTok giving people a glimpse of the amazing amenities on board the Wonder of the Seas. This cruise ship certainly knows how to take things to the next level!

Cruise ships feel like a home away from home, and they will cater to your every need

The ship mentioned in the video is called Wonder of the Seas. It is part of the Royal Caribbean International fleet and was ready for sailing in 2022. Besides the amazing facilities that the poster showed in the video, the cruise also has a water park, playground, basketball court, ice-skating rink, surf simulator, a zip line, theater, and much more. There is also a unique place on board called Central Park, with more than 10,000 plants and flowers.
It’s shocking to imagine, but this large cruise can comfortably accommodate 6,988 passengers. That’s great news because research shows that the number of cruise ship passengers was 20.4 million in 2022 and is expected to keep rising each year. People also tend to spend an average of $385 while on a cruise, which is far less than the budget described in the video, but nevertheless, it seems like people love cruises!
Bored Panda interviewed a current cruise ship employee, Lespaul Rebello, to understand more about different cruise ships, their amenities, and the experience of working on a cruise liner. When asked about the usual length of people’s stay on board, he mentioned, “Staying on the cruise depends, 7 days or 15 days, doing the Western and Eastern cruises. All depends how much they are [willing] to spend. There are guests who do the world cruising, gold members [stay] 365 days on board.”
It might seem surprising, but there are in fact guests who spend years on cruise ships. Mario Salcedo is one of many who has spent twenty years of his life on board. He hardly ever spends time on land and prefers to enjoy the many amenities provided by the cruise liner. Seeing the gadgets and luxuries of the cabin shown in the TikTok video, many might feel the same way.
Lespaul also shared his experience and more information about expensive cruise liners: “I have been working with a few reputed crew ships, started my first crew job in 1997 and still working for around 27 yrs. The most expensive rooms on a cruise ship depend as per companies. The most expensive I have known was in the Norwegian Epic, they give you 3 staterooms with WC attached, a big hall with a piano, and huge sitting place. Open balcony with a jacuzzi and a [sauna] attached with a shower.”

The global cruise market was valued at $7.25 billion in 2021. Around 1.75 million of those passengers visit the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda, which are considered popular travel destinations. People love spending a vacation on a cruise because they’re pampered and treated like royalty. According to Lespaul, “They have a concierge service 24/7 taking care of all their requirements like going on tours, [and] a butler service.” Now, who would say no to that?
Many families also love going on cruises because the parents can enjoy restful days while the kids run, jump, swim, and get looked after by trained staff. Apart from that, travelers don’t have to worry about paying for accommodation, transportation, and food separately. All of that is included in the cost of being on board. It often ends up being cheaper than paying for different parts of the trip separately.
Cruise ships aren’t just interesting for the passengers but for the staff working on them as well. They get to experience a whole new lifestyle while they work on the ship. Lespaul provided some information for people who want to work on cruise liners, saying: “Working for the first time, you have to adjust a lot. Not like your land job, it’s the ship life. Small cabins (could be 4 in a cabin, 2 in a cabin) just for sleeping. But while working, you will adjust and learn a lot, not much time for fun.”
All in all, a cruise ship can show you the world from what feels like the comfort of your own home. No wonder it’s such a popular way to travel and spend a vacation.
