Bored Panda wanted to learn more about the series, so we reached out to Therese and asked her a few questions about her work. The creator of Breial Strek shared what inspired her to start creating the comic: "I wanted a faster way to create art. For years, I spent days or weeks finishing a single piece. With these comics, I can complete them in just a few hours, which helped me overcome a decade-long art block. It started with drawing profile pictures for friends, then sketches of my colleagues. Before I knew it, I had a small follower base of friends and family. Their encouragement gave me an indescribable confidence boost and made me feel so loved.”
When asked where she draws inspiration for new strips, the Norwegian cartoonist responded: “From my workplace, my friends, and, of course, my wonderful and forever-beloved pets. This comic has followed me through three different jobs, so new characters appear every now and then!”
Next, we were curious what other artists, in the realm of comic and comedy, inspire Therese’s work. Here’s what the cartoonist told us: “Hyperbole and a Half and the Norwegian artist Tegnehanne. Two incredibly talented women I truly admire.”
Lastly, the Breial Strek creator shared with us some favorite comics she’s created: “I have many favorites! Since my comics are based on everyday life, many of my friends and colleagues are featured in them. To this day, some of them refer to events in our lives by referencing my posts because I capture the funny or memorable things we do.” She added: “One of my favorite comics made in 2013 is ‘Bacon Department,’ and one from this last year, Therese-code, about being a developer and finding bugs.”
