What if your shadow could reveal your unseen passion, dreams, hopes or former self? That's the idea behind my new collection of drawings, "What I See Art."
I'm Shane Warner, an artist in Las Vegas, NV. Art has been my hobby for years as I've worked professionally as an occupational therapist, focusing on children with severe disabilities. It's those kids who inspired the first completed piece of this collection, "Beautiful Dancer." Not having the ability to speak or express their passions, I tried to put myself their shoes. What are they seeing? What are they dreaming of? How do they see themselves?
After finishing "Beautiful Dancer," I was inspired to create "Forever Hero" in honor of all of the men and women who have served our country. This piece has special meaning to me since it is the last piece of art my mother was able to see. She passed away in June of 2016 after a three-year battle with cancer. After sending a picture of "Forever Hero" to her, she replied with a text message which read, "That is fantastic. I love it." My mom was always my biggest supporter and cheerleader.
While reflecting on my mother's passing, I thought of the fierce, warrior mentality that got her through so many treatments and painful side effects. I created the male and female versions of "Strong Fighter" in hopes of giving optimism and inspiration to others who are waging their own fight with the disease.
I've decided to launch my "What I See Art" collection in partnership with the Tyler Robinson Foundation. I'll be donating $10 from the sale of each print to TRF, which financially helps families dealing with pediatric cancer to cover unforeseen costs related to their child's treatments.
My mom loved art and I know she passed that passion on to me. She also taught me to use my talents for good. I like to believe that she is looking down on this artistic endeavor with pride.
