I wanted to find a way to use my embroidery art to express the deep and complex feelings many women in my life were experiencing after the recent election and the Women’s March that soon followed. When I finished the first one, I was able to hold it up and say, “This is how I feel on the inside about being a woman during this time.”— it was incredibly healing.
An excerpt from the Women’s March mission and vision that inspired this "Women's Series":
“We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all… Avoid internal violence of the spirit as well as external physical violence. The nonviolent attitude permeates all aspects of the campaign. It provides a mirror type reflection of the reality of the condition to one’s opponent and the community at large.”
