The series of works entitled "Elements" was made in the Workshop Graphic Studio
under the direction of Professor Małgorzata Chomicz. It consists of six graphics made in the
linocut technique, 50 x 70 cm format. It is a graphic technique belonging to the classic convex
printing techniques.
The title of the set refers to the importance of all elements for every man. The elements
are one of the greatest manifestations of the world's power, it is the foundation of the universe.
They are everywhere and in everything - around and in man himself. There are four of them -
Air, Fire, Earth and Water.
Air in nature is wind, sky, clouds, mountain peaks. In man, air is represented by
thinking, intelligence, breathing and aura. Our thoughts and ideas come from the air in the
same way as our inspirations. Logic and theoretical science are functions of air. The East is
also connected to the air element. The sun rises in the east, so this side of the world is associated
with the morning, with the beginning of the new, with spring. All our plans, our creativity and
creativity start with inspiration, which in turn is like the sunrise - a bright start, full of promises
and possibilities.
Fire in nature is fire in itself. In man, fire is represented by life force, body temperature,
electrical impulses, will. Our desires, temperament, passion, energy, impulsivity have a fiery
nature. All ideas are taken from the air and their realization in life requires fiery heat.
The Earth in nature is above all nature as such. It consists of the body of our mother
Goddess. In man, the Earth is represented by his body and his appearance. The Earth gives
strength, stability, patience, pragmatism, realism and durability. The Earth is connected to the
West, in the evening, in the autumn. It is a kind of fading force, its transition from an active to
a passive state. Here, an unconditional connection is created with fertility, the material result of
work.
Water is the source of life. Since all water bodies have tides, there are similarities
between the Moon and Water. Thus, the elements of water are intrinsically linked to many
features of the Moon. In humans, water is represented as body fluids, emotions and the
subconscious. Water is connected with the North, night (at this time the Moon is best seen and
its power is felt) and winter (winter is the time of year when most water is in the form of snow
and ice around us). If air is the idea, Fire is the driving force, Earth is the time of work results,
Water is the time when meaning and emotion are put into the work results.
The fifth element unites and connects all of the above and it is called the Spirit or the
Ether.
