Canadian artist, Ted Hayward, is using automotive "candy" paints to create stunning, dynamic paintings that dance with the light. Re-purposed road signs are the perfect medium to create paintings which appear to constantly shift and move. An internationally-recognized painter, Ted has recently traded-in his canvas and paintbrush for a spray-gun and a grinder. Paintings are finished with a tough, automotive clear coat, so they can be displayed outdoors. More of Ted's work can be found at Ted Hayward.com.

Old road signs make great canvases -the more character, the better!

Sometimes, Ted engraves the aluminum first, such as this Ying-Yang; it is buried under countless layers of transparent "candy" paint, and only appears when the light hits it just so:

Ted also likes to incorporate gold leaf and other metals into his new paintings:

"Up" 48 inches x 52 inches.

"The Psalms," 24 inches x 26 inches

This painting has a sunburst that is magically unlocked when the light hits it:

"I am the Light" 24 x 30 inches:

Ted Hayward's "Great White," London's Mall Galleries. Before taking-up a grinder and spray-gun, Ted was a traditional painter, working on canvas.
