Doodles Abroad

I am a self-taught artist who combines my two favorite hobbies, doodling and travel, to create an original travel series.

When I was little, I spent hours either playing with Microsoft Paint or thinking up extravagant outfits on models in my sketchbook. Over time, I lost touch with my artistic side when school and sports became a priority. However, during my Junior year of college I spent an amazing fourteen months studying abroad in several programs around the world. I realized that many of my pictures were landscapes when I looked back on them later. Although breathtaking, I felt that a large part of my experiences abroad came from the people and cultures that I encountered. As a result, I started to superimpose characters onto my photos using Graphic, thus adding a new dimension to my albums.

At first I kept most of the pictures to myself. However, with the urging of my family and friends, I have started posting them on social media. I now publish a new picture of my experiences each week on Instagram under Gloofabroad. This project has not only helped me grow as an artist, but has also expanded my curiosity of the world. I took all the pictures myself and pull from history and pop-culture as inspiration for my characters. I hope that my drawings encourage wanderlust in those who see them!
