This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first World Book Day (2 March). That's two decades worth of panicky parents scrambling through garbage bags to put together a costume at the last minute.
Well, panic over - the good people at Amazon have come to the rescue. Or, at the very least, to keep you on theme... you can whip out the toilet paper Mummy at halloween, people.
Ahead of the big day, a poll has revealed a top 10 list of favourite book characters, as decided by kids. The boy wizard (who's also celebrating an anniversary this year), Harry Potter, has reigned supreme as the nation’s favourite children’s book character, coming ahead of big names like Winnie the Pooh and The Big Friendly Giant.
Taking this as inspiration, Amazon UK has teamed up with blogger Toby&Roo (and her adorable kids!) to show parents and their kids how to ‘get the look’ for the top 10 children’s book characters using everyday household materials- and all for under £10 each.

3. Matilda

Harriet Shearsmith, founder of Toby&Roo and mum commented: “World Book Day is celebrated in schools across the country every year but there is always pressure on the parents to make great costumes for their children. I hope my fun and easy suggestions will give mums and dads inspiration to create head-turning character costumes on a budget that can help kids immerse themselves in the joy of reading.”
Amy Worth, UK Kindle Content Director, Amazon commented: “There really is nothing like getting lost in a good book, and it’s particularly important for children to experience this from a young age.”
