Two weeks ago
I put on a face mask,
wore rubber gloves
with a clorox wipe in hand,
drove to Good Mood Productions’ remote studio in upstate New York,
and wrote a song six feet apart.
We recorded and released it that week.
Then I sent it to thirty close friends and asked them to dance.
I’m not a cryer. But I cried.
Watching videos of my loved ones
finding joy and being brave.
Dancing in their kitchens, bedrooms,
bathrooms, basements.
Alone, together, pregnant, pajamaed.
My mother danced too.
She's been working nonstop
in a Westchester County hospital.
Claiming she's staying safe,
while I know her only concern
Is the safety of others.
In a time when we cannot be together,
this song and video taught me the difference
between together and connected.
We are connected despite the distance.
We need each other.
And we have each other.
