We managed to get an interview from Jo Sabin, head of community and marketplace at DesignCrowd. We asked her why they decided to combine Halloween and classical paintings: "Because it's fun! DesignCrowd designers love remixing old and new ideas for fun, like giving classical paintings the hipster look, to reworking old paintings with a Halloween twist. The submissions have a fun and freaky Halloween theme and make you see the classical art in a new light."
Jo also told us how they came up with an idea like that: "Photoshop contests like the Halloween Ren series help to hone photo manipulation skills and were really popular on Worth1000, so DesignCrowd has continued the tradition of launching fun contests after we acquired the site in 2014."
Jo tells us why she thinks Halloween is a great time for artists and designers: "Halloween gives designers a great excuse to use spooky ghosts, zombies, spiders in creepy logos to photoshopping skulls and giant pumpkins into classical paintings."
The competitions are great for designers all around. They help them hone their skills and share them with the world. You are given challenges, so no more of that 'I don't know what to draw.' Jo shared why she thinks these challenges are great for artists: "Anyone online can see the amazing creativity on display from DesignCrowd's 1M designers from around the world."
