Daryl Hajek is a professional beading artist who has been deaf since birth when his mother contracted Rubella during the epidemic in the 1960s. He has been beading for 18 years and has made more than 100 beaded items, including Christmas trees, candleholders, Christian crosses, and wall art.
The media he uses are faceted beads of various colors and sizes (4mm, 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm) and star-shaped beads of various colors and sizes (12mm, 18mm, and 25mm), plus clear fishing line (30-lb. test), silver 20-gauge beading wire, silver 3" safety pins, crafter's glue, and mini-lights.
He currently has many projects in the works and points out that beading can be very time-consuming, depending on the size and type of project. Some items take three hours to complete (Christmas tree) while other items could take up to two days (candleholders).
