A spectacular, gravity-defying dance performance is taking place in London this weekend.
At 1pm on Saturday 1 June, dancers will descend from East Village E20’s brand-new 107-metre-tall building, Victory Plaza, to perform a phenomenal vertical dance show to mark the official opening of the first homes to come to the former Athletes’ Village since it launched in 2013*.
Get Living, the UK’s leading build-to-rent landlord which rents 3,000 homes across the UK, has worked with dance company Vertical Dance Kate Lawrence (VDKL) to create the special, one-off performance which will see the troupe carry out a series of spins, flips and twists whilst suspended by ropes around the building in the stunning routine.
The 15-minute performance will form part of an Opening Ceremony inspired by the neighbourhood’s Olympic heritage and the continued community feel that is a mainstay of East Village.
Kate Lawrence, director of VDKL, said: ‘As one of the leading vertical dance companies in the UK, we’ve had the pleasure to perform on a number of iconic locations and venues. We are delighted to take on our latest challenge of performing on Victory Plaza which is the tallest building we have ever danced from!
‘The choreography is inspired by the feel-good nature of the village and the triumphant nature of the Olympics. We’re excited to show off this building, and we hope everyone enjoys the performance as much as we will.’
Visitors should head down to East Village from midday onwards, where the neighbourhood will come alive with a DJ, live music and food and drink stalls put on by East Village’s independent retailers, before the dance takes place. The first 500 visitors will also be given a FREE scoop of ice cream provided by La Gelateria.
Neil Young, CEO of Get Living said: ‘We create brilliant resident experiences in big city neighbourhoods and our new rental homes at Victory Plaza represent everything we know makes for great city living, so the opening is cause for celebration.
‘The latest addition to East Village brings 500 homes adding to the thriving East Village community which is now home to over 6,000 people. This special vertical dance performance will be a celebration of Victory Plaza, East Village and the community.’
After the performance, those wanting to look inside Victory Plaza will be invited to join an Open House from 2pm onwards. Tours to be booked via Eventbrite.
