" When i was a kid, i would sometimes wish i could switch my dad for another dad. One of those normal ones that is not as crazy as my father. A daddy who wouldn't make stupid jokes, or hug me in the middle of the street. One who wouldn't like to spend every single second of the day with me playing unpredictable games. One that wouldn’t embarrass me in front of a bunch of people.
I wanted a different dad.
A normal one. "

Dad Exchange: a book by Lin Kohen Ytterdal

Lily is an eleven year old girl, who like most kids that age, is tired of her parents. In her case it is her dad, who is an always joking father that embarrasses her in front of her friends and in public. It is all done with a lot of love, but she doesn’t see that. When one day she passes thru town and finds a mysterious new shop where the old bakery used to be, she is curious and surprised. It's a magical shop called the ParentSwap shop, a place where kids can come with their mother or father, describe what kind of parent they've always dreamt of and get a new one straight off the shelf! After her birthday turns into a disaster, she decides it is time to exchange her father, which sets her off on an adventure to find the ‘perfect’ parent….
Dad Exchange is meant for children, but is a really fun read for any age. It teaches us that the grass is not always greener on the other side, and that you can always find flaws with what you have. You just have to learn to love them, cause once they’re gone, you will miss them more than anything and see the real value of what you had.
My name is Lin Kohen Ytterdal and I am 18 years old.
I was born in Jerusalem in 1998, and moved to Amsterdam when i was 3. There I grew up with quite an alternative lifestyle; we lived in alternative creative spaces, and i went to a Rudolf Steiner school. When i was 13 my parents decided that the normal education system wasn't how they wanted to raise their children, and took me and my brother out of school to fulfill their dream of traveling the world with their kids. At the time, i wasn't all too happy about it, having to leave my friends and normal life behind, but now i am forever grateful for the experience they gave me. For over 4 years i've been able to learn not from a classroom, but from real life and the people i met on the road, giving me the time and freedom to express myself and learn what attracts me with no pressure of society.
When i turned 17 i decided that i wanted to go study Photography and i was accepted as a full time student at the Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands, and i just finished my first year successfully.
Writing this book has been a great journey for me, it has helped me expand my imagination and understand the world of writing and I hope all kids and parents that will be exposed to it will find it a good read, appealing and something to remember.
