With his heartwarming humor and simple yet expressive art style, Andrés, the creator behind Wawawiwa Comics, has carved out a unique space in the webcomic world. His work touches on the little joys and awkward quirks of life, offering readers a cozy escape from everyday stress—and it’s no wonder he’s gained such a devoted fanbase.
When we caught up with Andrés, we were curious to know where all the inspiration comes from. It turns out, everyday life is his biggest muse. “I try to focus more on scenes that people might experience and relate to, but I leave it more open, so they can find different meanings to it,” he told us. “Other times I just do silly comics, since my main goal is to post content that works as a break from all the bad news and negativity you see around.” Whether it’s a funny misunderstanding, a sweet moment, or pure absurdity, his comics always land with a sense of calm and charm.
Naturally, we asked Andrés if he had any wisdom for up-and-coming comic creators hoping to follow in his footsteps. His story proves that passion and persistence really do pay off: “I know it might seem difficult, and that the competition looks fierce these days, but I started doing this as a hobby while I worked as a graphic designer. I used to wake up at 3 AM to brainstorm ideas and make comics because it was clear to me it was something I really wanted to do for a living. Be consistent and don't expect it to be fast or easy.”
For Andrés, making comics isn’t just a job—it’s a deeply fulfilling creative pursuit. When we asked him about the most rewarding part of being a comic artist, he lit up: “First, I get to draw a lot. Drawing was a passion when I was a kid, but after my teenage years, I abandoned it completely. Now I get to do what I love, and my office is in my home, so I spend lots of time with my family.” He added that working alongside his wife helps keep them both focused and motivated: “Having short and long-term goals pushes me and my wife (we work together) to work hard with a goal in mind. We have so many ideas for Wawawiwa!”
