I’m actually a filmmaker, and I use art as a way to relax. It was during the lockdown, like most, when we were all stuck inside, I started doing lots more and using my art to tell stories, and before I knew it, it had a small following.

An illustration usually starts with a caption. I have a notes page on my phone where I keep captions that come into my head or things I say or hear people say. Then, I use Pinterest for inspiration, especially color combos. These days I mainly use my iPad. I would start sketching and see where things go. I have time lapses on my social pages that give an insight into the drawing process.

I will not spend more than a couple of hours on an illustration. I do these pieces in tiny pockets of time I find in the evening. I think the time limitations are the thing that gives me a style because I know what I can get done and what I can’t in that limited time. On a good evening, and if I'm feeling creatively inspired, I can get two illustrations done in a night.

When people see my art, I want them to smile. Or feel seen. I think this new movement in social media art, where artists feel the need to write a caption to make it more relatable and get clicks, is really important. I think a lot of artists who do this work struggle with the idea that they’re not artists but content creators, and in their own right, ‘content creators’ are artists. However, people use social media to escape from the daily grind, and there is a lot of bad stuff out there that can drag you into a hole, but we provide relief from that.
Lastly, I would like to wish everyone a nice day!
