Pi and Bu are not the actual names of the people behind these comics. It's their nicknames that they gave to each other. "We like to keep our real identities in private for now because it is a bit overwhelming to think that more than 800 thousand people might know us."
Pi is the one that creates the comics and her partner brings ideas and love! As Pi introduced herself, she is a 28-year-old girl with many aspirations. "I graduated in graphic design 6 years ago but I went for a career as an illustrator and since then I have been working hard to grow every day in what I do."
Pibubear came into Pi and Bu's lives almost 4 years ago when one day Pi made a drawing of them having fun in the supermarket. Several friends thought it was fun, so the artist asked herself if she should keep drawing comics of everyday situations that they do as a couple. And the answer was yes!
Pi's journey as an artist started when she was 5 years old. Her parents enrolled her in art classes because one day she escaped from the ballet to sneak into an art class. However, her love for art has been there since she can remember. "I always had a pencil and a piece of paper in my album photos as a kid."
Pibubear writes down all the comic-worthy things that happened to them in a notepad or a cell phone. "I always draw the comics one day before publishing them, I check the notepad, I choose our idea that we like at that moment and I start with a sketch, I show it to my partner, we make some corrections and I continue until I have it ready to publish the next day."
According to the artist, the comics have caused a lot of emotions in many people. A lot of people thanked Pibubear for helping them move on with their relationships and endure all the hardships. However, Pibubear has also received some criticism. "One day we published an image about us moving in together and some people took it on the side of criticism. Before it affected me when a post was not very successful but now it does not affect me so much because I know that there will always be other couples who feel identified and who send us very nice messages of support. My favorite part is when couples tag each other and write 'they are spying on us'. Then I know they find the comics very relatable and that our relationship is the reflection of many."
The most exciting part of the creative process for Pi is when her partner and herself see the comic ready and relive the moment for the second time. "It is very nice to see that memory or moment in a cute image. Another thing that I am passionate about is seeing how other couples laugh, label each other or even send us images of moments in which they identify with our comics, it really fills us with happiness to see how our characters are loved by many people. We are sure that Pibubear changed us but we know that it changed many couples around the world as well."
