Most interactions with strangers are fine. Forgettable, even. Someone holds a door, someone comments on the weather, someone lets you go ahead in the queue, and you both move on with your lives having made no impression on each other whatsoever.
But when a stranger says something that stops the entire interaction, you start replaying it on the drive home. You might even be thinking about it 3 years later. An online thread asked people to share the creepiest thing a stranger had ever said to them, and the results are chilling. Next time, you might be more aware of who is standing near you while you are waiting for a bus. You have been warned.

"You are standing on an unalive body." Was in a very crowded local train in Mumbai, India and a guy just passed away and his body was on the floor. I didn't notice him and had to stand on him for 2.5 minutes until I jumped off at the next station.

I was walking to see a friend a couple of years ago, when an old lady came up to me and said she wanted to read out of my hand. I don't believe in that kind of stuff so I just said "No thanks" and walked on. While passing her I could hear her say "Oh stop! I can tell you about your great love, an older man!"
Today I am happily engaged to a man who is ten years older than me.

I used to work at Wal-Mart in a city about 4-5 hours away from the city where I was born and raised until 6. We left that city after my father passed away.
I was ringing people up, wasn't really paying attention until the next guy stopped putting stuff on the counter. I looked up and he was pale as hell.
He says "I just saw a ghost of a man I once knew. Is (my father's first and last name) your father?" I was kind of scared, being so far from a place where people could have recognized me. I told him my father had passed away a long time ago, and he didn't know. Probably not that creepy to some, but it shocked me.

When I was 16 I worked at a breakfast restaurant. We had this "usual" customer. He was an older man, maybe 60s, white hair, and wore a cowboy hat. He couldn't speak, my coworkers told me it was due to his diabetes that he lost the ability to speak or something like that. Anyways, he came in once a week and we gave him the same thing every time, blueberry pancakes, sugar free syrup, and black coffee. He never had to order it, we were all just trained to give this guy the same stuff every time he came. Again, the dude NEVER talked. Not once.
Anyways, one Monday morning I was waitressing alone and he came in. When it came time to pay, he looked me in the eyes and said "I gotta tell you, the fun is over".
I just smiled and booked it into the kitchen and waited for him to leave - the chef and I were the only people there besides the pancake cowboy.

Standing in a parking lot of a nearby business complex at 2 AM smoking a cigarette with two friends. We were approached by a strange man walking through, probably 35-40. He told us he didn't know if he wanted to live or not and that his whole life was messed up. He didn't elaborate when we tried to console him, and then he walked off. I checked local police reports and found nothing. Still wonder/worry about that dude.

I was about to go into the bank forgetting it would be locked due to the it being the weekend. I went to go swipe my debit card to open the door and I didn't see it but there was a man using the ATM. I thanked him and said "I didn't even see you there!", he just replied with "Good." I'm not sure what he meant but it definitely creeped me out. He just said it so matter of factly and then walked out directly after.

The creepiest thing a stranger ever told me happened when I was walking home late one evening. An old man sitting outside a small shop suddenly called me by my name. I had never seen him before, so I stopped and asked him how he knew me. He smiled and said, “Your mother still leaves the hallway light on for you, doesn't she?” I laughed nervously and asked him how he knew that. He ignored my question and said, “When you were little, you used to cry every night because you could hear someone walking around your room after everyone had gone to sleep.” My smile disappeared because that was actually something I remembered from childhood, but I had never told anyone about it. I asked him who he was, and he stood up slowly, looked me straight in the eyes, and said, “I'm sorry I couldn't protect you back then.” I immediately walked away without saying another word. When I got home, I asked my mother if she remembered anything strange about our old house. She went completely silent. Then she asked me, “Who told you about the man who used to stand beside your bed when you were sleeping?” I told her about the stranger, and she started crying. She said that when I was four years old, I used to describe an old man who stood in the corner of my room every night. But the part that still scares me to this day is what my mother told me next. She showed me an old family photograph and pointed at a man standing in the background. It was the exact same stranger I had met that evening. Then she whispered, “That's your grandfather. He passed away three years before you were born.”
