It’s a summer afternoon in a small town in Madhya Pradesh and the little girl is busy with her favorite pastime, dressing up as a bride, pulling out real gota sarees, bandhej lehnga from her dadi’s trunk. Dadi lovingly puts her big round bindi on the girl's forehead, completing the look. She is her spitting image. Dadi asked her their standard question “What do you want to be when you grow up?" .“Bride!” she quipped.
All these memories rush to her, now that she is all grown up. Every time she sees a gota patti lehnga, a bandhej dupatta, a lehariya saree, emotions engulf her. She fell in love with the beautiful traditional arts of India and that became inspiration to bring these to every girl's treasure box.
Kantha is the latest addition to this ode to art forms. A short visit to Kolkata for best friend's “biye” took the explorer to much talked about bylanes of the city and she was in her heaven. She picked up six sarees there. Her mom loved the golden beige kantha saree she had picked during that time and it became the muse for coming out with motifs of the collection.
