When asked what inspired her to start creating her comic, Flora answered: “Being in a mixed couple (Asian and American) leads to lots of funny cultural differences and marriage couple memes.”
We wanted to learn more about the recurring themes in her strip, and the artist kindly shared: “Another source of inspiration comes from my Western friends and their perspectives versus my own perceptions. My experience living in the US as an immigrant also highlights cultural differences.”
Flora continued, pointing out additional topics featured in her comics: “My husband’s experience living in Hong Kong and how he sees things differently.”
She also mentioned: “Travel stories—some travel memories from our one-year trip around South America, Europe, and a cruise.”
Finally, Flora shared her hope: “I aim to capture these stories and share them with others to evoke feelings of fun, relatability, and travel inspiration. I want to offer an Asian perspective and maybe make someone think, ‘Oh, I’ve felt that way before.’”
