Prickly Pear, or North American Bear Claw is native to Utah, Nevada, and northwest Arizona. I was hiking in the red rock near Cedar City when I slid into a whole field of those. I had maybe ten that got through my clothes. Pouring oil on it is the easiest way for them to let you go.
That could be the first sign of a larger problems. I had blisters in odd places for the year before I was diagnosed diabetic.
