Your friend does a good job of describing anxiety. Somebody once explained to me that an introvert is somebody who genuinely enjoys being alone, while somebody with social anxiety craves connection but worries about saying the wrong thing or appearing foolish. That helped me see that I am not really an introvert, although I seem like one to a casual observer.
