Chloe was bred for her meat. She would never have been born otherwise, so living a peaceful live was never a possibility for her.

Both fit together handsomely: the general belief was that the universe is hostile. Much difficult and dangerous and hard work has to be done to keep things running. Those sacrifices were captured enemy warriors, to obtain them Aztecs had to go to war and risk their lives first. By the same logic, women risk their lives to do battle with spirits of underworld to get new souls into new bodies.

Some Catholics believe pain and suffering good for the soul. It's pretty nuts.

Speaking of catholic hospitals. I gave natural birth at a catholic hospital. No I.V. No medicine, nothing. I was in active labor and in excruciating pain. I was making noises I didn't know I could make because it hurt so bad. One of the nurses came into my room and said, "Why are you being so loud?" Will you please quiet down. Had I not been in labor I would have cussed that nurse out. From my experience catholic hospitals are the worst places to give birth. It's mind boggling that people who are supposed to be so in touch with Jesus, act in ways that are the complete opposite of how he would act.
