A 4-year-old boy named True showed up at the hospital for heart surgery completely alone, no parents, no family, just a scared little kid waiting to go into a major procedure. He was in foster care and dealing with serious heart problems, and his caseworker couldn’t be there that day. The doctor who saw him, Amy Beethe, couldn’t stop thinking about how he had no one. After learning more about his situation, she and her husband decided to foster him and later adopted him. Even more amazing, he had six siblings also in difficult situations, and with help from relatives and friends, they made sure all of them ended up in safe, loving homes too. Today he’s thriving with his new family, and his doctors say the stability has even helped his health.
