I do not have enough information to say if this was a highway drive for the story above. However, given the history of vehicles, in 1996 cars started having a little light that comes on about the gas cap indicator stating that it has an issue or is not on, called OBD2. Starting in 1996, OBD2 became a requirement for all cars sold in the United States as part of a federal mandate to lower vehicle emissions. (Google it) this just felt like over kill to follow someone for 10 minutes to let them know, which in my opinion comes off as a little creepy. (Which again I am allowed to have one even if it is unpopular.) Second off, if they did not know, the sensor was not working or it was a older car, they would find out as soon as they got out of their car so following them to let them know when they stopped, seems like a moot point?? (edit: assuming of course this is in the US. Assuming, lack of information, and my unpopular opinion)
