Strangely enough, I was once bitten by a bat-- in a library. I used to be a librarian in the USA. A bat had managed to trap itself in our library and ended up on the floor, very dehydrated. A patron decided he could help the bat by stomping on it with his big boot. I immediately dived to the floor and protected it with my hands, resulting in me being bitten. Poor little bat was so scared. I don't know why people have the urge to kill anything they don't understand.
