As others noted, the Arlington story is incorrect. Long story sort, the property occupied a strategic position overlooking Washington DC and was seized by the Union Army after Lee choose the Confederacy. .......... Union Brigadier General Montgomery Meigs, who hated Lee for turning traitor, deliberately turned the grounds into a cemetery so the Lee family could not live on the property again.
Apparently he could trash-talk without even saying anything too. There's a story that he was once called out to fight a duel. He showed up at the appointed time with this huge saber and casually started lopping branches off trees. His opponent quickly found a face-saving way to call it off.

Being the presiding officer of a legislative body is not the same as being one of a nation.

Seeing as the issue was fueled by racism, to do so would entirely neuter the story and divest it of all of the important lessons we should learn as to why racism and inequality are bad and evil. It would also dishonor the memories of the black citizens who díed. "Removing" the racial connotations from a mássacre that was the direct result of racism is absolutely disrespectful.

What even more people don't realise is that the reason the American colonial traitors won their war of independence is that they were supported by Spain, France, and the Netherlands who all three fought against Britain. The Americans just had to hang on while their global superpower allies did most of the dirty work.
Now Trump is the highest ranking American to be a confirmed traitor to the country.

that was my question. Did someone actually spend $214K of actual real money on .. what? A virtual, computer generated house? Giraffe Sitter's comment in bang on "this is on you, stupid decisions should hurt."

• Forbes --> a business and financial magazine • 30 under 30 --> 30 people under 30 years of age highlighted in the magazine for their achievements in business / finance • ...to prison pipeline --> suggests there's a trend of the under 30s being dodgy, getting caught, and going to prison • Roman Empire --> the term became internet slang when some women apparently realised that the men in their lives thought about the historical empire on a surprisingly regular basis. In this context, having a "Roman Empire" refers to a niche obsession that a person thinks about constantly, sometimes to an obsessive or humorous degree. It is often used as a playful question, as in: "What is your Roman Empire?"

got the boxed set

I really liked Netflix's DVD service. Their DVD catalogue had many older and foreign films that aren't on any streaming service.

what building is this? What did it represent and when/how/why was it destroyed?

In the early 20th century the area around Enterprise, Alabama was almost totally devoted to cotton farming. Th eland was starting to give out, then between 1915 - 1918 a Boll Weevil infestation all but destroyed the cotton fields. ............ A man named H. M. Sessions saw the situation as an opportunity to convert the area to other crops, mainly peanut farming. ...... This change was wildly successful and saved the local economy. ---------- The monument to the Boll weevil was raised in 1919 to show how something disastrous can be a catalyst for change, and as a reminder of how the people of Enterprise adjusted in the face of adversity. .............. The original monument, BTW, was just the statue of the woman with upraised arms, the boll weevil was not added until thirty years later.
