As someone who wasn't diagnosed and medicated until 24, I vehemently disagree. Being medicated late took a massive toll on my quality of life and self-esteem. I wish they got caught me earlier and medicated me- my life would have been so much better. Get your kids medication and someone to teach them coping strategies, but don't for a second think those coping strategies are going to be very effective without medication unless it's a pretty mild case. Life only gets harder as they grow up, so set them up now. Don't make them fail at life first before taking the disorder more seriously than the medication
Disagree strongly. I wasn't medicated until 24, and it took a massive toll on my quality of life and my self-esteem. Medicate your kids and also make sure they are working with someone to help build coping strategies. But don't think for a second those coping strategy are going to do much without medication unless it's a very mild case. Don't let your kid grow up feeling crappy about themselves because they're constantly struggling but can't figure out why. And remember that life only gets more complicated as you get older. Help them get a leg up now while they can.
