No, it was the name her mother gave her, she was sowing in winter and pricked herself with the needle and said something along the lines of. "I wish I had a daughter with skin white as snow, hair as black as ebony/coal, and lips read as blood." Then she there's something along the lines of either "I shall name her snow white" or "and so the queen had a child and she called/named her snow white". It was always her actual real name. That's why there are some twisted story versions where the evil queen is the good guy and snow white is actually a vampire

Except the key point of Snow White was that her skin was white as snow. A lot of folks took exception to the casting because if that description as well.
The image is absolutely a big deal. It's like casting Schwarzenegger as John Henry because he's big. The colour of the two characters is absolutely a big deal.
