It really depends what the medical issue is. Doctors are great with some things but really not with many - anything rare, multi-system or that primarily impacts women they're often useless. Google and patient support communities got me through things that no doctor did. The better medical professionals (ie no ego) are very open to learning from patient experience. (I'm definitely talking about lived experience and community knowledge, not some person with no experience who feels they can comment on something after ten minutes on Google).
