Torturing. Um.. How about disciplining.
I find this really amazing still because growing up poor meant living in a trailer with a dump of a car and hand-me-down clothes, barely making ends meet. Most people I gradded with didn't get cars, nor did they live in 2-3000 foot homes. More like apartments and bus.
