Compassion For Animals – The Snake Story

The animals probably know that there are not many humans on the streets and might want to declare their territories. But let us also notice along with their sudden appearances, they are also maintaining the social distance quite much! Want to know how? They don’t come out in large numbers, nor are they overcrowding places. If we learned a thing or two from these critters, we would flatten the curve way quicker!
This is where the story begins. Yesterday night we found a snake in the Soulflower Sanctuary premises. We called a snake lover, who despite curfew came from far off just to get the reptile rescued. As obvious as it may sound, we couldn’t find him during the night time as it was dark. We gave up. Today morning we tried again and Mr. Hasmukh Maruti Valanju (PAWS Volunteer), the kindest gentleman travelled again all the way from Mulund to Marol, in spite of the lockdown. We all definitely know how much travel that is. But still, he did come and made us believe that kindness isn’t dead. There are people who love animals as much as we do or probably even more!
We carefully rescued a two-foot-long Rat Snake this morning and he will be released in its natural habitat after medical examinations and informing the Forest Development. We are compassionate of life in all forms. Be it a dog, a cat or even a snake. We never want to harm any creature that is alive. As we said, every life is precious and we must learn to respect it. Due to the lockdown, there are very few people on the streets. This will lead to the animals creeping out at night. Do not panic and make wrong decisions that might be wrong for you as well as the animal. If you are not aware of what to do, please call the Forest Department and inform them.
Soulflower was born out of compassion for animals. Our primary motto was to feed strays because we love animals. We believe that every life is precious - the one who speaks and the speechless ones, too!
We are extremely thankful to Plants & Animals Welfare Society (PAWS - Mumbai) and Amma Care Foundation (ACF) and their team. This wouldn’t have been possible without you. We thank Mr. Hasmukh once again for the dedication and love he has for animals.

We have made a promise to protect and feed the strays. We have successfully been doing that so far.
