In an interview with Bored Panda, Alan shared about himself and his background: “I'm a Mexican-American comic artist. I'm currently a bartender/server as well. I've been making comics for a little over 4 years now.”
We were curious to learn more about Alan’s creative process and how he conceptualizes and refines the scenarios for his comics. Alan responded: “My creative process... most times, I just take a real joke I made in real life and stop... and say 'Wait... that's a great comic idea!' And modify it into a 4-panel story. So they're really just my real-life jokes drawn out. Sometimes, I have to think it through if I'm thinking about a specific prompt, but most of the time not.”
Alan’s comics have garnered over 31K followers. His readers find his illustrations not only funny but relatable as well. We asked Alan to share whether he draws inspiration from personal experiences, or if he relies more on observation and imagination.
“I feel like my comics are mostly imagination when creating my comics. About 40% is an inspiration from real-life experiences and 60% is imagination and an exaggeration of the experiences,” explained Alan.
In today's world, where societal norms and sensitivities constantly evolve, we wanted to know if Alan has faced challenges or criticisms regarding the boldness of his comic content. Alan wrote: “I actually have received some hate for my comics before but it always is a misinterpretation of my comic. My jokes are straightforward and never meant to hurt anyone but sometimes, people take them personally for no specific reason. But it is what it is. No sense in dwelling on it or replying to the hate, I just keep on going. I'm just glad and grateful that my creations make anyone feel anything at all, good or bad. My comics did start off as more of a wholesome theme and ended up being raunchy and explicit jokes, so some close friends and family who used to be excited to share my content no longer do. But that's alright, I understand, no hard feelings. That's showbiz, baby!”
And lastly, Alan shared a piece of wisdom: “As a wise man once said, 'The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma.' - Patrick Star.”
