Over 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression and one in four people globally will be affected by a common mental health issue in their lifetime.
Yet the stigma is alive.
Depressio &co. is a clothing brand and creative project, founded by a 30-year-old Finnish entrepreneur Martta Tervonen.
”When I was diagnosed with depression, I felt a lot of shame. Actually, the shame had prevented me for getting help earlier. I started thinking about ways to end the stigma around mental health and got an idea: What if people around the world would wear depression?”
Depressio &co.’s mission is to eliminate the stigma and shame surrounding depression and other mental health issues. Their dream is to see the whole world wearing depression to show compassion and understanding to those affected by it.
”Depression is a very common problem around the world but it’s invisible. Also, in many places it’s kind of a taboo. We want to encourage everyone to wear Depression to raise awareness and encourage talk about mental health.”
Depressio &co. sells inspiring (and cool!) t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies in their online store at depressio.co. Everything is made of 100% recycled textiles and what’s even more brilliant is that they donate all profit for suicide prevention work. Later this year they will also launch new products and designs.
Many Finnish top artists and celebrities wear Depression and share the important message on social media, and the brand was also featured in the biggest Finnish media last Sunday (YLE.fi https://yle.fi/uutiset/3-11030908).
