Black Canadian History: Retold.

Part of Canada's past is being retold in a new short film entitled C'est Moi about a contentious subject in Black Canadian History. The central figure of the film was tried, tortured and inevitably blamed for burning down the city of Montreal in the 1734 fires that consumed a majority of the city. This figure was a female black slave named Marie-Josèphe Angelique. How is that you may ask? Many of us think as Canada as a save haven where slavery did not exist however that is not the case, also it seems that a lot of our history has not been documented as much.
Help us remember forgotten and marginalized stories of history. The film stars Jenny Brizard, a native Montreal actress and dancer playing Angélique. The film is directed by emerging filmmaker Howard J. Davis.
