It's easier to end a romantic relationship when your partner lies and cheats. However, if it's "just" a compatibility issue, the lines get blurrier, and you might feel unsure whether you need to ignore it or solve it.

One woman recently came to the subreddit r/Relationship_Advice to hear what its members thought about her current problem.
She's an introvert and needs time for herself. But whenever she's trying to recharge her social battery, her boyfriend starts sending passive-aggressive TikToks about the "bare minimum girlfriend" archetype. And even though her initial reaction is that he's way out of line, there's also a part of her wondering if he's right.

It actually makes sense for introverts and extroverts to get together
Linda Bloom, L.C.S.W., and Charlie Bloom, M.S.W., are the authors of Secrets of Great Marriages: Real Truths from Real Couples About Lasting Love.
They say that introverts and extroverts have opposite—which the Blooms prefer to call "complementary"—means of dealing with stress and meeting their emotional needs.
"Introverts tend to be self-reflective and seek out spaces where they can access their inner experiences freely. Extroverts, on the other hand, are predisposed to seek out others with whom they can engage and find the answers to their questions in the dialogue that the interactive process provides," the couple writes.
"It might seem counter-intuitive for these two very different personality types to get together, but it actually makes perfect sense from a relationship standpoint."
Left to their own devices or paired with a partner whose inclination is the same as theirs, people's lives can become unbalanced in one direction or the other. Two extroverts run the risk of burning out without sufficient downtime for rest and reflection. Things can also get heated between the two of them, as their tendencies might cause them to overload their systems, possibly amplifying rather than reducing the stress level of their lives.
The potential danger of a relationship with two introverts is insufficient stimulation and inadequate external input. The net result of this is that the relationship and the passion level can flatline. More marriages end as a result of neglect than unresolved differences, so a two-introvert relationship carries its own set of risks as well.
This does not by any means suggest that marriages shared by two similar types are doomed, Linda and Charlie say. It's just that each pairing comes with its own strengths and challenges, and recognizing those differences can help couples build a healthier, more balanced relationship.
But people do need their personal space
YouGov found that 80% of Americans say it's acceptable to tell a partner you need personal space, and 70% say it's acceptable to tell a partner you want to spend time with friends without them.

This suggests most people view constant togetherness as unhealthy.
Time apart can actually bring good to the relationship. "Differentiation ... means that instead of two people paddling the same canoe, each person paddles their own, side by side," explains Wendy Allen, a Santa Barbara psychotherapist.
Each partner should strive to be a whole, healthy individual who can make positive contributions. And space, says Allen, "encourages the solid, cohesive sense of self in each person."
When two people assume all their needs are going to be fulfilled through each other, the relationship is set up for disappointment, and ultimately failure.
However, YouGov also discovered that the "amount of quality time spent together" ranks among the recurring relationship conflicts, with women especially likely to report having a problem with it (23% vs. 11% of men).
But these fights don't have to end in a breakup. Explanations can go a long way toward a peaceful compromise. Reassure an anxious partner by making the issue as neutral as possible, advises Allen. "Say, 'This has nothing to do with you. It's just the way I'm made.'"
The problem, as this case shows, is that when the other person doesn't get the message and continues pressuring their partner to spend more time together, the outcome is often the opposite of what they intended.
In other words, the more one person pushes for something, the less the other is likely to want it.
