The Art Gallery at Rockefeller State Park Preserve proudly presents Between the Lines, an exhibition inspired by the power of art to tell stories that unfold beyond the written word, inviting audiences to explore the many dimensions of the storytelling process.
Between the Lines brings together the work of highly acclaimed writers, illustrators, and animators whose creative practices blur the boundaries between narrative and visual expression. By weaving together text and imagery, the exhibition reveals the many ways stories can emerge whether through fearless superheroes, mischievous creatures, a lovelorn clown, or an enchanted wilderness. This dynamic exchange between words and visuals explores the rich layers of meaning, imagination, and emotional connection that arise when storytelling reaches past the page.
Featuring the work of twelve illustrator-authors and three animators, Between the Lines highlights a range of distinctive voices and varied approaches to storytelling. These artists create worlds that inspire children’s imaginations, bring poetry to readers’ hearts, and extend their stories across languages and cultures. Curated by Lisa D’Amico, the exhibition celebrates the diversity of the creative community and the endless possibilities that emerge through the interplay of text and image.
