“I won’t expatiate about repairs and maintenance since very few owners do it by themselves. Though, in my experience, a reliable mechanic can make owning a car a more or less pleasurable event. Keeping a log of repairs is also vital and helps on many occasions. A good mechanic will not only repair what needs to be repaired but will also foresee problems that you might encounter before they’ve occurred. Maintaining your car at a resourceful workshop might be time-consuming, but it will pay off in the long run.”
“Lastly - check your tires. No matter how good your car is, if it’s in wrong-for-season or worn-out tires, it won’t help you in any unexpected situations. I’m not advocating for premium tires, but you shouldn’t skimp on the best ones for your needs, the roads you drive on, and weather.”
So, there you have it - an abbreviated manual for choosing your next car right in this article! Talking about future cars, we were curious about Dainius’ opinion on smart cars and electronic vehicles. “It’s not a question about technological evolution, but rather about human rights and the margins of democratic tolerability. Smart cars aren’t a problem; it’s a legal challenge. You could release autonomous cars into the streets today, but many legal questions are waiting to be solved before that. It’s a sort of dilemma at hand - you could expect to see autonomous cars in first-world countries as soon as the legalities are set upon. Still, because of democracy and human rights to privacy, it isn’t an easy task to accomplish. With less developed countries - it’s way too early even to start thinking about the possibility of self-driving cars.”

Lastly, Dainius shared a fun yet educational story from filming the series. It concerns car owners’ tire choice - a thing we’ve talked about that drivers often oversee. “Once, we did an episode in which we discussed tire choices for winter. It was filmed in an apartment building parking lot, and there a skidding BMW caught my eye. So naturally, my partner and I came to help the driver. Upon first inspection, his tires seemed decent and not like the culprit of his immobility. It turns out he bought the tires from a seller that he knows for an excellent price, but even though they looked good visually, they were more than twelve-years-old and more like plastic than rubber to touch. We helped the BMW driver out of the pickle he was in, and he drove off swearing at the seller. Wouldn’t you know - I met the same guy a couple of weeks later; now he boasts about having bought new tires, this time just four years old from the same seller who tricked him in the first place. He was pleased to have saved a couple of bucks again and only put the new tires on the back since “BMWs are RWD.” So while it isn’t exactly a funny story, it’s an educational one about saving where you shouldn’t - tires are vital in getting you from A to B in one piece.”
So that’s it, gearheads - we kindly thank Dainius Leonavičius for his extensive interview on hosting a TV series, his vital advice on choosing a car, and an educational story that will definitely be handy come winter.
