Bees are dying in unprecedented numbers, and "Bee Works" is my way to inspire people to action.
Neonicotinoid pesticides, used in monoculture farming, are poisoning bee colonies and are a threat that can be stopped if enough people speak out against their use. These pesticides affect the nervous systems of bees, destroying their ability to navigate.
To make my "Bee Works", I arranged over 60,000 dead honeybees in intricate mathematical patterns symbolically linked to monoculture crops, such as the Fibonacci spiral found in the seed head of the sunflower.
When you stand before these artworks, you experience the vertigo of this lifeless swarm, a dizzying optical illusion that echoes the bees’ loss of ability to navigate due to the toxins locked within the very source of their sustenance.
