For me, there are two types of art. The type that I spend hours meticulously detailing to get some semblance of the reference image and the other type. Anxious energy spilled, splayed and cried (don't judge, we're all weird in our own ways) onto the canvas leaving me feeling almost calm and somehow anointed in the mess I have made.
I recently stopped watching and reading as much news and started spending my mental escapes painting away in my imagination. Then, every day before work, sometimes during lunch, and then at night, I paint it out. Not slow, painstaking portrayals but an almost violently happy explosion of movement with little planning and little time to think.
I recommend it.
This particular painting was created in one setting, using Target bags instead of brushes, while listening to the Swiss Army Man soundtrack on repeat, with a name stolen shamelessly from a line in one of my favorite songs.
4' x 5', acrylic on canvas
