For working parents, finding suitable childcare is definitely a challenge. Looking after kids is no walk in the park, and it’s equally hard to hand over your entire world and leave the little ones in the hands of a sitter. But some moms and dads — who don’t realize just how demanding and stressful babysitting is — make things way worse.

The job comes with a host of challenges and constant pressure while trying to navigate the complex world of being a carer, a friend, an entertainer, and an employee all at the same time. But while the current sitter shortage has some parents treating workers like VIPs, others expect them to slave away for them for reasons they can’t explain.

A recent "Babysitter needed ASAP" job listing has been making rounds online after content creator Collins O who goes by @thatboycollins revealed the unreasonable requirements of unhinged parents to his followers — and mercilessly roasted them on TikTok. "I need someone to watch my 4 kids (ages 2, 3, 5, and 7) from noon to 6 pm Monday to Friday," the sign read, followed by a list of superhuman expectations.

Parents who want to find suitable childcare have to communicate their expectations with extreme clarity from the get-go. But when some out-of-touch moms and dads seem to throw common sense out through the window and expect to match with serious candidates who would cater to their unrealistic expectations while barely making enough to get by, that’s a whole other story.

Stella Reid, a nanny coach with over 30 years of experience and founder of Nannyology, a full-service agency aiming to make optimum family-nanny matches, told Bored Panda in a previous interview that, thankfully, instances like these ones are pretty rare in the industry.

Throughout her years in the field, Reid rarely came across parents who make unreasonable requests in their job ads. "On occasion, if they have, then I and my team have talked the requests through with them and explained that they are not realistic/not going to happen with anyone we introduce them to."

"Nannying is a profession and we require it to be treated that way when making connections," the coach added. "We like to think of the nanny as let’s say Julia Roberts and the family as say Sony pictures and we are the people in the middle that help to make the magic happen."

When it comes to the reasons people come up with such prerequisites in the first place, Reid pointed out that parents often have high hopes for care providers. Or, in other words, they see looking after their children as more than just a job. "But we don’t deal in hopes. We deal in agreements. What the family expects and what the nanny expects may be very different BUT agreements are clear."

In this field, there can be no room for ambiguity: "Get VERY clear on what you are looking for and please get clear on your budget," the coach advised. "Always do your due diligence when hiring a nanny. Check references, do a background check. This arena is unregulated and because of that, it is quite easy for people to pass off as a nanny when really they aren’t."
