Today is a big day for Axle! He is getting neutered and may possibly have some dental work done if enough time is allotted at the clinic. I felt so bad leaving him there but it’s what’s best for him. My husband will be picking him up at the end of the day. I feel like a parent dropping off their child on their first day of school, even though we’ve only had him for a week.
The first night he was with us, he ended up waking up in the middle of the night howling and whining. We soon found out that he doesn’t like being alone at night, so now he sleeps in the bed with us. He’s sort of a bed-hog! But he sleeps soundly and doesn’t get all pushy.
He gets along great with our cats; he could hardly care less that they even exist. Which leaves our cats confused because they’re so used to Misha chasing after them. The other day I caught Loki and Axle sleeping on the couch upstairs, not directly next to each other but close enough to put a smile on my face. I wish I had gotten a picture of that.
We have also slowly introduced him with Misha. She’s such a young pup(2 years) that she’s just so hyper and playful all the time while Axle just wants to lay down and relax. There was a little growling at first, and Misha is a submissive dog, so I don’t think we have too much to worry about now that they have established their order. We kept them on leashes during their first interactions just in case. Now they are not needed.
We already knew that Axle gets along with children, but now we know that he gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is a great cuddler, especially during bedtime, and loves attention. He’s just an old man that needs a little lovin’.
