We’re a liberal bunch in Australia. We’re always up for a laugh and are willing to push the boundaries more than most, however, even we have our limits. Here are some of Australia’s most divisive commercials of 2016. Any loved them, many hated. Which side of the fence do you sit on?

Ultra Tune—We’re Into Rubber...

This ad left nothing to the imagination. While it is clear which demographic they were appealing too, many found it not only unappealing, but downright offensive.

Australia Day Lamb—Operation Boomerang...

We’re used to outlandish ads featuring Sam Kekovich around Australia day, but many Aussies felt this ad showed our sunburnt country as too self-important.

Yellow Octopus—That Famous Mug...

While many viewers related to having a bad boss, not all of them felt the mug shown in the video was an appropriate way to express those feelings.

Medibank Private—Every Kind of Family...

This ad was inclusive of every kind of family, whatever sexuality. While most Australians supported this ad, embracing the diverse families of Australia, 66 people felt the need to complain to the Advertising Standards Board.

Ultra Tune—An Unexpected Situation...

Ultra Tune weren’t satisfied with one controversial ad, so they pushed for another. While this video again sexualised women, it came with an unexpected twist. Unsurprisingly, it was banned by the Advertising Standards Board.

The Conjuring—Film Trailer...

This movie trailer was clearly too frightening for children. As it turns out, it was also too frightening for adults. The trailer could give you nightmares, so beware of the movie.
