The statue of Liberty Enlightening the World (Liberty enlightening the world), known as the Statue of Liberty, located in the old Bedloe's Island (now Liberty Island), New York, United States, was a gift from the French to the Americans in Centennial of the US independence in 1886. the original idea was the journalist and historian Edouard Rene de Laboulaye, soon after the end of the American Civil War (1862- 1865). The statue symbolizes freedom and opportunities that North America offered. She brings in her right hand a torch, symbolizing the light of freedom, and left a board with the inscription July 4, 1776, when the US independence was proclaimed.
